Other magazine covers and spreads.

The content design wise on this magazine cover is simply a collection of the main content within the magazine it’s self. The viewer’s eyes are drawn instantly to the kerrang logo then automatically drawn to the centre of the page where the words 'DOWNLOAD' are in bold and take up a substantial amount of the magazine cover indicating that it would take up a majority of the content of the magazine. Next the eyes are drawn towards the four men towards the top of the magazine cover, (Slash, Matt Tuck, Corey Taylor and Jared Leto) this also is a huge indication to what the contents of the magazine is. By using the images of the men within the magazine, it hits the target audience perfectly. I like the layout of this magazine because it isn’t over crowded as other popular magazines often are. Another thing I like about this magazine cover is the colours that have been used. By keeping the background simple and very monotone this allows for more vibrant colours to be used to make important text stand out. I particularly like the use of yellow around the ‘DOWNLOAD’ text. Also with the other yellow text because it flows with the magazine cover and it isn’t too bright.

The content of the magazine spread consists of two photographs one of which dominates the spread by covering one half of the spread. This is something in which I have seen in various magazines. The second photograph splits the remaining spread in half leaving only a relatively small area in which the article is placed. The main text of this spread is set out in two main columns which makes the text less daunting for the reader to read. The colours used within the spread have been kept simple which makes the magazine aesthetically pleasing.

By looking at this particular magazine spread, it clearly breaks some of the rules when traditionally producing a magazine spread. By breaking the rules slightly the magazine spread stands out and jumps out at the viewer. The overall spread is broken into four sections. One of these sections is a photograph of the band in which the spread is based on, by having an image taking up half of the spread this gives some reassurance to the viewer who may find a large amount of text daunting to read. I can tell this because the target audience of the magazine is teenagers and over.
